Trabalhando com binários pequenos

O gerenciador de fotos do curso trabalha apenas com links de fotos, não com binários. E se eu quisesse enviar e receber os binários das fotos, teria como? Se sim, como deveríamos trabalhar com os binários no angular?

Pra facilitar e suportar o maior numero de browsers possivel, eu converteria essas fotos binarias em string base64 pra usar como data uri. Aí no fundo vc tem só uma string que pode salvar, colocar no json, usar no angular direto etc.
