Não consigo rodar o jetty pelo maven

Referente ao curso Maven: Build do zero a web, no capítulo Criando um projeto web e atividade Adicionando o plugin do jetty

Eu coloquei o plugin do jetty no pom.xml e tentei rodar pelo prompt só que ele exibe a mensagem abaixo. Eu cheguei a apagar o .m2 e inicializei pelo eclipse e rodou uma vez. Mas depois não rodou mais.

Peterson, nesta url: http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2/org/eclipse/jetty/jetty-maven-plugin/ a útima versão 9.3.x é a 9.3.9.v20160517. Coloquei essa versão no meu e funcionou de primeira. Espero ter ajudado.

Olá Peterson,

Estou usando o plugin com a seguinte configuração:

<plugin>
    <groupId>org.eclipse.jetty</groupId>
    <artifactId>jetty-maven-plugin</artifactId>
    <version>9.4.0.v20161208</version>
</plugin>

Com a versão da documentação o meu também não havia funcionado.

Caused by: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/eclipse/jetty/maven/plugin/JettyRunMojo : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

o meu da esse erro, não consigo de forma alguma subir o jetty, coloquei o tomcat e subiu de primeira....

Boa noite galera, eu tive o mesmo problema e minha solução foi remover a versão do plugin, rodar o plugin e pegar a versão atual na linha de comando e colar na versão do jetty no pom.xml.
